The story of a dress… given to Andi’s great grand ant in 1959. Andi’s German great grand aunt married a Jewish New York dandy after the war and after realizing that he was actually gay did the unspeakable – and divorced him. She then did another unusual thing – that is to see a counselor- and subsequently became friends with his incredibly wealthy wife. She in turn was friends with Jackie Kennedy and did her shopping – as one did at the time at SAKS Fifth Avenue. So one day she handed Andi’s aunt the dress as a hand-me down to an out of luck German divorcee (of course with the matching dinner coat).
So half a century later this stunning gold dress ( that is in perfect condition and looks like it just left the shop) lives with us in Lennox Head were it got a new life as a fashion prop to showcase distinctly 21st century jewellery….
Testing how lightweight the N°237 Splendid Horn Isolation Statement Earrings from the new winter collection are using a SPIDER NET! I love large statement earrings, but I can’t handle weight anymore…. and so I was really happy when I came across the wonderfully organic horn pieces from Vietnam. So here’s the proof – if you share my love for bold pieces and prefer super light weight earrings – these might be for you!
Up to day No 5 of the #ArtJewelleryChallenge – N°213 THE TREND COUNCIL AMETHYST & TURQUOISE LAB Statement Necklace from the new winter collection. Although it is hard to think of drab winter days when you live in Lennox Head – these days obviously do exist in quite a few places in the world – and I was thinking of those women when I designed this necklace! In colour psychology orange stands for optimism, purple for creativity and turquoise is considered to be inspiring positive thought – simple pick-me up psychology!
Here comes day 4 of the #ArtJewelleryChallenge – thanks so much for nominating me Jen! N°219 The La Vie Chartreuse Statement Necklace comes alive through the colour of the gods -CHARTREUSE- juxtaposed with hues of pecan, cinnamon and beige. Chartreuse lemon Jade, Agate and Imperial Jasper are contrasted by the warm Smoky Quartz and coffee tones of tiger-eye.
I feel privileged to have been nominated for the #ArtJewelleryChallenge! Here is day 3 of the challenge – statement earrings from the winter 2015 collection – No 212 – also known as Samson & Delilah’s Asteroid.
In an age of anti-Muslim sentiment I have opted to make feminine & understated earrings that fuse opulent Arabic calligraphy with Amazonite (Hong Kong) Smoky Quartz (India) and Carnelian (USA). The gold-plated centre piece from Istanbul symbolises “Mashallah”, an Arabic phrase used to show appreciation for a person or happening. It is used to show joy and praise, and is evoked upon hearing good news.
Jen – thanks again for nominating me to be part of the #ArtJewelleryChallenge! Here is day 2 of the challenge with a statement necklace from the winter 2015 collection – No 218 – also known as Snow White’s Secret Lover.
The focal point of this piece is an organic matte gold-plated ring from Israel, complemented with Lava, Howlite and Freshwater Pearls and subtly contrasted by gold-plated pyrite (Fool’s gold) and rough gold-plated druzy Agate. I was aiming for white simplicity & contrasting structures all rolled into one…. let me know what you think!
